Virtual gallery of Dave Green

Green Gallery is the virtual gallery of Dave Green. No physical gallery space exists however framed work is regularly shown in North Devon and beyond.

There is a programme of Photographic Workshops planned for the Winter of 2012.

Current Work

I’ve been spending the late Autumn and Winter working on the exhibition ‘Graveyard of the Atlantic’ which will be on display in the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, April – June 2012. The title is a phrase shared by the North Devon coast and the coast of North Carolina because of the hundreds of shipwrecks which have littered both coastlines since Elizabethan times. Many of the images were already made but to give someone an understanding and appreciation of the North Devon coast I needed some more general ‘views’ to supplement my sea caves. The images above are some of these supplements. I could have easily made some pretty pictures of sandy beaches under a blue sky but the North Devon coast is celebrated for its heavy weather. There’s a sublime beauty here that draws artists who are not inspired by the easy and commonplace but who need to feel alive from all that Mother Nature can hurl at them. Rather than making photographs of the few wrecks that haven’t been totally obliterated by the surf; I’ve been out in the gales intent on describing the conditions under which so many lives and ships were lost. There will be a small exhibition of there ‘Heavy Weather’ photographs at Schooners Café in Appledore from 11th February.

 

Previous to this I've been working on a body of work called Ghostcards. They were on show at the rear of Walter Henry's Bookshop in Bideford until the end of October, part of Bideford Bay Creative's Culture Show 2011. There is also a free pdf download to accompany Ghostcards.
