From Lynton to Wales 2006

‘From Lynton to Wales' is sized to work as a desktop background, just right click on the large image and ‘set as background'. This is a wonderfully atmospheric image taken on the coast path between Lynton and ‘The Valley of Rocks'. The low cloud at Lynton is not unusual; in fact the lighthouse here was built up-side-down so that it could still be seen in this kind of weather. Wales can just be seen, in the distance under the cloud, 27 miles away. It goes without saying that I was treated to torrential rain minutes after taking this photograph. Long Nook Beach, Cape Cod, MA USA 1998

Cape Cod, MA USA, is the view from Long Nook Beach, North, South, East and West. It's best to try and work a picture like this out for yourself. The hill like structure is the high sand cliff which stretches for 60 miles along the ocean side of Cape Cod. The darkened corners of each frame are from vignetting through use of too many lens filters; I don't mind it here, in fact I encouraged it because I was trying to find those things that made a traditional photograph different from a digital one. Through overexposure of the negative I was able to emphasise the black and bleeding of colour between the frames and I've included the sprocket holes in this and all of my Triptych photographs.

Hartland Veil, North Devon 2005

‘Hartland Veil, North Devon' was one of my first successful pictures from the inside of a cave on the North Devon Coast. The photographs were taken on 29th May 2005 and 27 of them constructed together make up Hartland Veil. It is a special little place, seeming far bigger and grander in my photograph; only accessible at a low tide in between Hartland Quay and Blegberry Beach.

Orderville Canyon, Zion NP, Utah 2002

Orderville Canyon, Zion NP, Utah, was taken on 1st June 2002 during an intense 10 day trip to Utah. This was 3 days before ‘Douglas Firs, Navajo Loop' which was to cement my current working practice. Orderville Canyon is a tributary of Zion Canyon a mile or so up the narrows in the National Park. As a way of illustrating how still and concentrated I am whilst shooting these 19 frames of the ground, sky, the canyon before and behind me; I noticed once I'd enlarged the image to it's full I metre width that there is a dipper on the canyon floor that I hadn't been aware of whilst taking the photographs. This is usually quite a shy bird so I must have been very still, quiet and unthreatening.
