REAL MEMORIES IN PICTURES
Exhibition by Photographer Dave Green from now until April 16 Praxis 2 Gallery Café, Bideford.
IMAGES spanning the last decade make up a stunning new exhibition by photographer Dave Green.
The Bideford based former teacher is displaying his work at Praxis 2 Gallery Café in the town.
The exhibition, the first for Green in North Devon, is entitled Until Now.
The collection of work includes pieces in black and white, hand printed colour and digital images from the West Country, the Western United States and as far away as Hawaii.
Green said: “I have been teaching photography full-time for 15 years. After I started to teach I soon noticed, and started to collect, discarded black and white photographic paper left in the darkroom."
He described that the paper was sometimes left for days: "It would turn into beautiful images through the act of light, developer and fixer. I was captivated by their range of colours - some makes of paper had purples and yellows, others browns and oranges some had greens and they all included black, greys and white."
He said the images were to be "an inspiration" and he began to make work using the same process.
"I photograph on impulse using the available light. All light has its own beauty. I photograph what I see, when I see it to record a real memory, rather than 'faking' my memory with a pre-ordained time of year, day, weather condition or light."
He concluded: "My photographs aren't manipulated in the contemporary sense but simply juxtaposed or joined digitally."
Sculptor Barry Hughes has three pieces of complementing work in the show.
